A baby dedication is a ceremony in which parents, and sometimes entire families, make a commitment before the Lord to raise that child according to God’s Word and God’s ways.

Because the child is a gift from God, the parents promise, as God’s stewards, to bring up the child entrusted to them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 5:4; Colossians 3:21).

When dedicating a child in the presence of fellow believers, parents are publicly dedicating themselves to the faithful fulfillment of their parental responsibilities (Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Proverbs 22:6) and are acknowledging their need of prayerful support and encouragement from fellow believers (Ephesians 6:18; Hebrews 10:24-25).
